What a year...
What a year we’ve had. 2020 certainly didn’t end up in any way that anyone planned when they waited up for the clock to strike midnight a year ago. And though we had to cancel many events we had been looking forward to, though we missed snuggling with newborn nieces, nephews and grandchildren, though we felt isolated more than we ever had before, there were still blessings to be found.
My travel to Scotland for a bucket list workshop with Moy Mackay happened just a few weeks before the world closed up because of the pandemic. I am forever grateful for that time with Moy, for meeting new friends, for feeling as though I had come home to Scotland, my ancestral land. I found it difficult to leave, there was far too much that I had not been able to explore due to the stormy weather. I hope to return someday, in the early fall, so that I can complete the exploration of that magical place.
The pandemic caused me to pivot my business into the direction I had been planning for the past two years but hadn’t ‘jumped’ into the new path yet. Going live every Monday through Friday, with few exceptions, from mid-March through the Friday before Christmas helped me to hone my video skills, got me comfortable in front of the camera, and enabled me to see that this new direction was, indeed, the right path. I am looking forward to ‘leaning in’ to this new path with more conviction in the coming weeks, and plan to run no less than 4 classes each month via Zoom.
Additionally, The FELTit Experience has been up and running for just over a year, and while there are still aspects that need tweaking, I believe that this exclusive community will be growing to a larger number and will stretch me to continue to provide content that these members are looking for to progress in their individual felting practices. I am grateful for each member of this community for inspiring me just as much as I hope I encourage them.
Finally, in this crazy, strange, sometimes frustrating year, I am grateful for each person who has been intentional in maintaining connection: via FaceTime, Zoom, phone calls, letters and cards in the mail. I’ve learned not to take anything, or anyone, for granted. Once again I know that life is far too short, that we must take every opportunity to love one another, to fight for justice, for mercy, and to live lives filled with compassion and empathy. To quote the Mandelorian,
“This is the way.”
